The Building
Habitat for Humanity brought our team in to build nine sustainable, energy-efficient homes for families in need across Queens. The homes were designed by Paul A. Castrucci Architects, a Certified Passive House firm, to reach net-zero operating energy. They pair a high-performance envelope with all-electric systems, built to an affordable budget.
The homes were manufactured off site as modules. Our job was to prepare each site, set every module precisely, and connect the homes to finished, livable standards.
The Challenge
Many of the modules arrived incomplete. Our team had to solve problems as they came up and do additional work on site to bring each home up to standard. Tight urban lots in Queens added logistical hurdles during craning, with little room to stage equipment and set modules.
Scope
Foundations for all nine homes
Craning coordination to set the prefabricated modules on dense urban sites
On-site completion work on modules that arrived unfinished
Final site connections, including utility hookups and structural tie-ins
Outcomes
9
net-zero energy homes delivered
13,400
sf of new affordable housing
